FILM PROJECTS BY ALLISON WHELAN

ALONE (2025)

Alone is a 23-minute post-apocalyptic short film about a 15-year-old girl wandering a desolate world in silence, haunted by loss and hunted by monsters. With her family gone and survival slipping through her fingers, she clings to one thing: hope. Even as she's stripped of everything, she refuses to surrender. When her breaking point comes, it brings clarity, not defeat.

Told with minimal dialogue, the film delivers a haunting, visually arresting story of resilience and inner strength. Shot entirely on an iPhone and edited with Final Cut Pro.

Alone was written, directed, shot, edited, colored, and sound designed by Allison Whelan, an IB Film student. The result is an emotionally raw, bold cinematic experience—proof that even in the quietest films, the fight to survive can roar.

Shot in Kandanas and Chorafakia, Crete, on an iPhone and edited with Final Cut Pro.

My Strange Addiction (2023)

My Strange Addiction is a 10-minute mockumentary-style comedy about Dede, a high school girl with an unusual habit—she’s addicted to eating dirt. Inspired by the TV show of the same name, the film dives into Dede's bizarre obsession through a series of interviews with classmates, teachers, and Dede herself, painting a hilarious yet oddly heartfelt portrait of her life.

Told in a documentary format with quirky, offbeat humor, the film satirizes our obsession with strange behaviors while highlighting how people find comfort in the weirdest things. Shot entirely on an iPhone and edited in Final Cut Pro, It blends sharp editing with comedic timing to deliver a short film that’s as ridiculous as it is memorable.

Written, directed, filmed, and edited by Allison Whelan, an IB Film student, this project proves that even the strangest stories can be told with heart—and a handful of dirt.

Shot in Temecula, California, on an iPhone and edited with Final Cut Pro.

MAN OF THE HOUSE (2025)

Man of the House is a 5-minute horror-comedy that turns a simple domestic crisis into a battle of wills. When a cockroach invades the family bathroom, the terrified wife and kids summon their reluctant hero—Dad. Though equally repulsed, he puts on a brave face, stepping into the battlefield with toilet paper and pride.

What follows is a tense, hilarious showdown between man and bug, complete with psychological torment, false victories, and a cockroach that simply refuses to die. In the end, Dad emerges triumphant—sort of—earning the admiration of his family and reclaiming his title as the fearless man of the house.

Directed with tongue-in-cheek suspense and comedic timing, Man of the House delivers creepy-crawly laughs in under five minutes.

Shot in Chania, Crete, on an iPhone and edited with Final Cut Pro.

Missing (2024)

Missing is a 3-minute silent thriller that captures the eerie tension of late-night suburbia through the eyes of a restless teen. Tired of lying in bed and scrolling TikTok, she convinces herself to go for a nighttime walk. Her friend declines. So she goes alone.

As she drifts through the quiet, empty streets, something—or someone—follows. The silence grows louder. The danger closes in. When she vanishes without a trace, all that remains is a flyer in a mailbox.

Created as a student film project by Allison Whelan, Anja Mendyk, and Maya Rivera, Missing was named a finalist at the International Youth Silent Film Festival and screened in Portland, Oregon. Told without words, the film builds slow-burning dread through cinematic framing, expressive performances, and a chilling final twist.

Shot in Temecula, California, on an iPhone and edited with Final Cut Pro.
